Those who struggle with the Quran's language

The word ‘kha-ba’ has been used in the Holy Quran to describe failure. And ‘khaybah’ is a word that, when spoken or heard, casts a shadow of sadness, disappointment, despair, inferiority, inability, failure and helplessness in the minds of people. Khaybah or failure is the failure to achieve the desired goal, not getting what one expected, not succeeding in what one hoped for. Failure comes only after hope.

When hope is broken, then failure and the heartbreaking feelings associated with it come.

The word khaybah or failure is mentioned in the Holy Quran in four places, all of which are related to oppression. Either oppression (shirk) in the broad sense or oppression towards servants or oppression towards oneself.

First, the oppressors or the oppressors: It is said in Surah Taha of the Holy Quran—‘And whoever bears oppression, he has failed.

’ (Surah Taha, verse: 111)

Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said, ‘Whoever associates partners with Allah has indeed lost, and oppression is shirk.’ In this broad sense, oppression is understood as shirk.

Shirk is of two types: open shirk, hidden shirk (which is more subtle than the footsteps of an ant), and minor shirk (showing off or showing off)

Secondly, Jababerah and Anid i.e. the oppressors

The stubborn: The Holy Quran has identified the tyrants and the stubborn as unsuccessful. In Surah Ibrahim, verse 15, it is said – ‘And they sought judgment, and every tyrant was unsuccessful, stubborn.

The one who forces a person against his will is the tyrant. And the one who opposes the truth and turns away from it is the stubborn. It is narrated in the Hadith, “Indeed, there is a valley in Hell, and in that valley there is a well called ‘Habhab’. It is the right of Allah to make every oppressor, stubborn, settle there.”

Tabarani, Al-Mujamul Kabir, Hadith: 12217)

Thirdly, the liars: The Holy Quran has also identified the liars as unsuccessful.

Surah Taha verse 61 states—‘And whoever invents a lie has failed.’ Surah Ankabut verse 68 states—‘And who is more unjust than he who invents a lie against Allah or denies the truth after it has come to him?’

What Iftirah is doing is lying about someone he does not like. Al-Kafawi asserts that iftirah is the extreme

kind of deception. Imam Suyuti asserts that iftirah is the creation of something without foundation.

Fourth, Those Who Corrupt Their Own Souls: The Holy Quran also refers to a failure, or "Kha-ba," as someone who corrupts their own soul. Verse 10 of Surah Shams states, "And whomever corrupts it (the soul) has failed."

"This passage relates to the person who has wrecked himself, gone astray, and led him to sin," says Hasan Basri (may Allah have mercy on him). Furthermore, Ibn al-Arabi describes a person who counts himself among the righteous yet does not share their behavior.

Anyone who looks at the reasons for failure in these four Quranic locations will realize that they are roles that result in particular outcomes rather than being unique to a particular time or generation.

What the Failed Need to Do

The only path to salvation for individuals who possess the failure-causing factors listed by Allah in His Book is to genuinely decide to overcome them, to repent, and to make apologies.

If not, they will be the most lost people on the planet, and they are not even aware of it. "Those whose efforts in this worldly life have been in vain, while they think that they are doing good actions," says Surah Kahf, verse 104.

May Allah Almighty grant us all the tawfeeq to escape from the list of those who have failed according to the Quranic interpretation through correct understanding. Ameen.
