Despite hundreds of challenges, millions of people came to Sayeedi's burial that day.
Despite the opposition of the Awami League's affiliated groups, millions of people flocked to Pirojpur on August 15, 2023, to attend Allama Delwar Hossain Sayedee's funeral. There was nothing that could stop these many people that day. To say goodbye to Sayedee for the final time, people traveled from all across the nation.
It is well known that activists and leaders of the Chhatra League put up barriers in a number of ways to stop Sayedee's funeral. Attacks by the Sramik League, Jubo League, and Chhatra League injured over a hundred people in a number of locations, including the Bagerhat terminal, Mazar More, and Bandhal. The folks made it to their goal in spite of these challenges. According to Sayedee's final request, the Awami League had previously thwarted the plan to bury him in the madrasa he founded in Khulna. Leaders of the Awami League continued to hold processions at several locations even after Sayedee's passing.
The case and the decision
Sayedee was accused of war crimes in 2011. During the Liberation War in 1971, he was accused of over 20 crimes, including rape, torture, genocide, and looting. The International Crimes Tribunal sentenced him to death on two accusations and found him guilty on eight of the twenty charges on February 28, 2013.

Nonetheless, a number of foreign commentators denounced the decision as being driven by politics. The verdict was then appealed to the Supreme Court by the accused and the state. In its appeal decision on September 17, 2014, the Supreme Court of Bangladesh lowered the death sentence imposed by the International Crimes Tribunal to life in prison.
Death and interment
Delwar Hossain, Allama On August 13, 2024, Sayedee had a heart attack in Kashimpur Central Jail. For more advanced care, he was first brought to Gazipur's Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital and then to Dhaka's Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University. At the age of 83, he passed away on the evening of August 14. Following his burial at the Sayeedi Foundation in Pirojpur, he was buried there on August 15 following a lot of controversy.
Masud Sayeedi, his son, said that the healthy Sayeedi was deliberately slain. However, a witness in Sayeedi's case, Sukaranjan Bali, stated in front of thousands of people that he had nothing to do with the alleged crimes.
