Success in the Rooppur Nuclear Power Project's "cold and hot" test

The pipelines are deemed operational for feeding steam to the turbines following successful testing.

The pipeline that supplies steam to the turbine of the first unit of the nuclear power station being built in Rooppur, Ishwardi, has successfully passed the "hot and cold" test. Under this, steam is used to perform blow-down operations on the pipeline. The pipelines are deemed operational for feeding steam to the turbine following a successful test. The complete completion of the "cold and hot" test was certified by NPCBL and the Russian contractor, Atmastroyexport, yesterday, Wednesday.

Such experiments are required prior to the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant's commissioning, according to Dr. Jahedul Hasan, Managing Director of Nuclear Power Plant Company Limited (NPCBL). This guarantees the turbine equipment's dependable and secure operation. Steam is used to assist in the blow-down operation, which is carried out at 200 degrees Celsius and two megapascals of pressure. These settings are chosen in accordance with the design specifications in order to thoroughly clean the pipeline of any tiny dirt, debris, and moisture that may still be present.

Additionally, he stated that the sudden boom produced by the test's quick release of steam into the surrounding airspace was foreseeable and that the locals were warned beforehand to prevent any fear. To thoroughly clean the steam providing pipeline, this blow-down procedure will be carried out again in the following phase with more steam. Consequently, the equipment's performance at a load that is similar to the load that would be experienced throughout the operation may be ascertained.

"An additional step has been made toward the commissioning of the first power unit and its grid connection with the completion of this significant commissioning activity stage. Alexey Deyri, vice-president of Russia's Atomstroyexport, which is involved in the Bangladesh project, stated that the Rooppur Nuclear Power Unit, which is built on the state-of-the-art Russian VVER-1200 reactor, will supply clean electricity for decades to come, or about 10% of the present demand.

Notably, two units with a combined 1,200 megawatt producing capacity are being established at the Rooppur Nuclear Power Project with financial and technical support from Russia. The project is being carried out as a general contractor by Rosatom, the engineering division of the Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation.
