Jamaat declares that it would start a campaign calling for a PR system.

A movement calling for proportional representation (PR) voting in the National Parliament's upper and lower houses has been announced by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami.

Reporters were informed by Jamaat-e-Islami Nayeb-e-Amir Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher following a Sunday afternoon meeting with Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin.

We have decided to employ the PR system for voting in the upper house of parliament, he stated. However, we insist that PR be included in both the lower and upper houses. On that matter, we will demonstrate. This is because, over the course of the electoral system's 54 years, we have observed that fair elections have never been guaranteed here.

A proportional election system is the PR system. The seats will be allocated based on the aggregate number of votes each party obtained nationwide.

Taher stated that Jamaat-e-Islami has consistently supported elections and expressed hope that the national elections would take place in February. Regarding the election date that was announced in February, Jamaat has no fundamental objections. since the elections may take place in February or April, as we have already stated.

This Jamaat leader used the last three elections as an example, stating that the manner in which they were conducted did not allay people's election-related anxieties. As a result, we have made numerous demands of the administration.

Taher also sought the Awami League's trial and changes, which the government had pledged prior to this election.

"We have informed the CEC that a level playing field is a requirement for the election," he stated. We shall be as serious as feasible on my end, he has promised. Our goal is to trust the Chief Election Commissioner.

"Bangladesh people do not want to see any more unfair elections," Taher stated. The citizens of this nation will once more take to the streets if something similar occurs. No more occupying elections will be tolerated by the people of this nation."
