Israel and Egypt's gas agreement during the Gaza War
Despite the ongoing conflict in Gaza, Egypt has inked the biggest natural gas export agreement in history with Israel. On Thursday, the two nations inked the agreement. The acquisition is worth $35 billion in total. According to the agreement, Egypt would get 130 billion cubic meters (bcm) of gas in total until 2040 or until the predetermined quantity is reached.
The Middle East Monitor, a Middle Eastern news outlet, released this information on Friday.
According to the report, the gas will be supplied in two parts in accordance with the agreement. Beginning in 2026, 20 (bcm) of gas will be delivered via an upgraded pipeline connection in the first phase. Following the Leviathan field's extension and the building of a new pipeline to link it to Egypt's gas network via Nitsana, the remaining 110 (bcm) will be supplied in the second stage.

According to Israel's Energy Minister Eli Cohen, the deal will significantly boost the country's economy, jobs, and revenue. The CEO of NewMed Energy sees it as a chance to build Egypt as an energy hub and foster regional collaboration.
Critics counter that given the ongoing fighting and the siege of Gaza, the arrangement will make the nation more reliant on Israeli gas. In addition, tensions between Israel and Iran and the Gaza war raise questions about the security of gas infrastructure in the Eastern Mediterranean.
