Islamabad-New Delhi war of words over Pakistan army chief's remarks
Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir is on his second visit to the United States in two months after the conflict between India and Pakistan over the Pahalgam incident in Indian-controlled Kashmir. A fierce debate has started over Asim Munir's comments there. India has also responded to this. Pakistan has also reacted in kind.
According to Reuters, which cited Indian media, Munir stated, "We are a nuclear-armed country. If we think we are going to be destroyed, we will be destroyed along with half the world," during a dinner in Florida hosted by business magnate Adnan Asad. Parts of Munir's speech were later made public by Pakistan's Foreign Ministry, but the phrase "nuclear-armed" is omitted.

Indian External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal released a statement on social media X. It said, "I have seen a statement by Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir, who is visiting the US. Making a fuss about nuclear power is Pakistan's driving force. The international community can come to its own conclusions about the irresponsible comments of the Pakistan Army Chief."
But the doubts about a country's nuclear command and control are growing stronger and its army is joining hands with terrorists.'
The statement further said, 'What is even more sad is that Muni said this while standing on the soil of a friendly third country. India has already made it clear that it will not succumb to any nuclear blackmail. India will take all necessary measures to protect its national interests.'

Pakistan's response

The statement further said, "Pakistan is a responsible nuclear power and its nuclear command and control is with the civilian government. They have always shown discipline and restraint in this regard."
